Prince Edward Island’s Fall Flavours Festival wins International Food and Beverage Award

The World Food Travel Association (WFTA), the world’s leading authority on food and beverage tourism, announced the winners of the 2017 FoodTrekking Awards for excellence in food and beverage tourism. Among the winners is Prince Edward Island’s Fall Flavours Culinary Festival.

The Fall Flavours Festival is a month long culinary celebration highlighting authentic PEI food and experiences that takes place during September across Prince Edward Island. Local and celebrity chefs come together to create an unforgettable experience for attendees with a wide range of unique culinary experiences at a variety of venues across the island.

“This award win is exciting for the festival, and for the island as a whole, as it continues to put Prince Edward Island on the culinary map” says John Rowe, Chair of Food Island Partnership who oversees the Festival.

The awards are unique in that they fill a void of recognition of excellence in experience in multiple categories within the food and beverage tourism industry. Food and beverage is the fastest-growing sector of travel, itself one of the world’s largest and most economically significant industries. That’s the case for Prince Edward Island and the Fall Flavours Festival as it drives visitors in an otherwise slow tourism period.

Prince Edward Island’s Fall Flavours Festival took home second place in the Food/Beverage Event Experience category. This award is reserved for exemplary models of events that focus on food/ beverage and showcases the area’s culinary culture.

The event was judged by seven experts in specific fields, including restaurant owners, chefs and those in the tourism industry. Judges were asked to evaluate the business strategy for the submitting company or organization; the marketing communications that support the product or business; the overall public reputation of the company or product; and as needed, the individual product itself.

The Fall Flavours Festival is quickly approaching on September 1, 2017. Tickets will go on sale the end of May. For information visit www.fallflavours.ca.
