Dr. Sylvain Charlebois is nationally acclaimed as leading specialist in food distribution and policy.

Since July 2016, Dr. Charlebois is Dalhousie’s Dean of the Faculty of Management, where he also holds a cross-appointment as Professor at Dalhousie University Faculty of Agriculture. Previously, he had been Associate Dean of Research and Graduate Studies of the College of Business and Economics at the University of Guelph between 2010 and 2016 where he co-founded the University of Guelph's Food Institute in 2011 and also served as acting dean of the College of Business in 2011-12. He is a former director of the Johnson-Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy in Regina and a recipient of multiple federal government research grants.

Highly proficient researcher, he has published over 500 papers in peer-reviewed journals, professional publications and conference proceedings. His most renown research are University of Guelph Food Retail Price Report (2011 to 2016) and the World Ranking Food Safety Performance Report (2008, 2010, 2014). His research and op-ed have been featured in a number of publications, including The EconomistThe Wall Street JournalThe Chicago TribuneThe New York TimesThe Boston GlobeForeign PolicyThe Globe and MailNational PostToronto StarMaclean's and La Presse, as well as on the Business News NetworkCBC Radio and CBC TelevisionGlobalCTVTVOntario and TVA.

Dr. Charlebois is an appointed member of the National Scientific Committee and the National Expert Board of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency since 2011. Since 2013, he is also a member of the Global Food Traceability Center's Advisory Council. He also sits on numerous company boards, and supports many organizations as a special advisor.
